In today’s world, it seems that almost any topic is open for debate. While I was gathering facts for this article, I was quite surprised to find some of the issues I thought were settled are actually still being openly discussed.

Home décor is definitely one of the most difficult things home owners have to deal with after buying their house. Most of these home owners would simply hire a professional interior designer and let him do the magic of decorating their houses. Although it is a very effective method, at times it does not seem all that practical especially for home owners who have allotted a certain budget on their home décors. Even if it may take more time and effort from the home owners, decorating their house themselves is definitely a wonderful idea especially if they want to bring out their own creativity and style. One way of doing so is by making use of the vintage concert posters that they have always rolled away inside their basement.

The Art Of Self Home Decorating With Vintage Concert Posters

Although self home decorating may entail a lot of work, using these vintage concert posters absolutely does not require a lot of effort coming from the home owner. Basically, all you have to do is put these vintage posters inside well thought-out and sophisticated frames and strategically place them around your house. The mere fact that they stay simple yet designed with an intricate piece of framing is definitely a head turner for anyone who visits your home. Besides, it does not only add to the overall design of your house but rather it gives a sense of style and uniqueness for your home.

If your Vintage Posters facts are out-of-date, how will that affect your actions and decisions? Make certain you don’t let important Vintage Posters information slip by you.

There are a lot of people who love music and most of the time they would go a long way to collecting items from their favorite vintage bands such as The Beatles, The Cure, ACDC and Kiss. And there are also times when people would simply purchase different concert posters as a keepsake of the concerts and shows that he has seen of the band. However, these concert posters do not necessarily have to go unframed on your room walls; instead they can even liven up your living room and make it seem like a sanctuary for a rich history of music if you will add some creativity to it.

Putting Up Your Vintage Concert Posters

In order to put up your vintage concert posters inside your living room, all you have to do is place them inside glass frames most preferably those that are simple yet elegant. At times, people would also enhance the use of these vintage posters into making them as a wall art. There are definitely many ways for you to design these vintage posters; however, you should always make it a point that these posters are placed in strategic places so that when visitors come by, they can automatically notice them. Moreover, you can even arrange them in such a way that you can share with your visitors a brief timeline of the band’s success and musical history.

Indeed, these vintage concert posters are not only meant to be put up frameless inside your bedroom. What you can do is utilize the beauty and elegance of these posters and put them up inside your living room. That way, you can give much style and sophistication to the entirety of your house making it a more relaxing and comfortable place to stay.

Having A Ride With Vintage Bicycle Posters

Category: Vintage PostersAnders Eriksson @ 10:26 am

The only way to keep up with the latest about Vintage Posters is to constantly stay on the lookout for new information. If you read everything you find about Vintage Posters, it won’t take long for you to become an influential authority.

Beginnings
Bicycling became very popular ever since Baron Von Drais invented the bicycle in 1817. During these years, poster making was a chief advertising tool, and a lot of vintage bicycle posters have been created through the decades that bicycle posters eventually turned into an art form. Vintage bicycle posters rose out of several countries such as England, United States, Russia and Japan. The French was also aggressive in their advertising through the use of posters. Michelin, one of the main manufacturers of modern tires, was also aggressive in using bicycle posters to advertise their products.

There were many artists who concentrated on creating bicycle posters, such as Leonetto Cappiello, Jean de Paleologue, and Jules Chéret. Many artists followed suit. Even in the contemporary age, bicycle artists are still very much at large.

What You Need To Know
Original vintage bicycle posters are extremely hard to find these days that a lot of people has resorted to reproductions. High quality reproductions are made from the same litography process as the originals, and would cost from $100 to $300. The word ‘vintage’ has been thrown around nonchalantly, and was used in regards to films, musical instruments, clothing lines, and many other commodities. Other than referring to old merchandise, it can also be attributed to style and fashion. Thus, a clothing line branded as “vintage” could only mean that it used a style that was considered chic many decades ago.

The more authentic information about Vintage Posters you know, the more likely people are to consider you a Vintage Posters expert. Read on for even more Vintage Posters facts that you can share.

So a general rule of thumb before purchasing a vintage bicycle poster is to know the difference between the two. The last thing you want to happen is be overpriced upon buying a “vintage” poster that was created just recently. Just to have a point of comparison, a cheap “vintage” poster sells for $10 to $50. Authentic vintage bicycle posters are usually not in perfect condition. So expect signs of wear or creases when you finally find one. This is because almost all of them are printed on very thin paper.

The appraisal of the poster will also depend on the degree of wear, so don’t forget to keep this under consideration when you decide to sell or purchase a vintage bicycle poster. How you collect vintage bicycle posters is entirely up to you. You can choose by artist, era, style, or brand. The type of art can range from art deco to art nouveau. It is imperative that you familiarize yourself about the various designs, pricing, and the trends in the market. The internet is a great tool for this. Also, the city market shops might have vintage bicycle posters for sale. And should you be lucky enough to have bicycle poster exhibitions held near your location, do not pass up the opportunity to attend.

Final Advice
It’s important to remember that having fun with the act of collecting is just as important as thinking about how much money you can earn. The sincere enjoyment of basking in the beauty of the beautiful contraption, how they have evolved through the ages, and the way they have been artistically rendered on paper, are encompassing values that will translate to the success of your bicycle poster business.

Now you can be a confident expert on Vintage Posters. OK, maybe not an expert. But you should have something to bring to the table next time you join a discussion on Vintage Posters.

Popularity Of Vintage Posters

Category: Vintage PostersAnders Eriksson @ 9:43 pm

You should be able to find several indispensable facts about Vintage Posters in the following paragraphs. If there’s at least one fact you didn’t know before, imagine the difference it might make.

The demand for vintage posters has steadily risen through the years due to the scarcity in the market and the high value pinned on them. But aside from being a collector?s fancy, vintage posters are also popular because of the aesthetic appeal that they bring to the overall decoration of any room. The classical feel that they imbue is an impressive staple to many types of establishments – be it restaurants, museums, cinema houses, or homes.

Looking at it from the bird’s eye view, one can discern that the fascination for vintage posters is far from reaching its apex. In fact, the demand for them is still increasing, which is partly caused by the availability of the World Wide Web. Use the words “vintage posters” on Google, and you’ll see an amazing amount of leads – most of them sites that offer to buy and sell vintage posters.

There are popular museums that showcase a score of authentic vintage posters, such as the Louvre in Paris, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum of Modern in New York, and the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C. Going to the internet is also a great way to look for vintage posters.

If you base what you do on inaccurate information, you might be unpleasantly surprised by the consequences. Make sure you get the whole Vintage Posters story from informed sources.

Vintage posters can be divided into two types. The first one is the authentic vintage poster, which is the original copy itself. These posters are very expensive because of the low supply in the market and among collectors. In fact, the older the poster is, the pricier it gets. Can you imagine stumbling upon an original poster that came directly from France and dating back in the 19th century? Finding posters that existed in the time of the legendary poster maker, Jules Cheret, is quite a hard task, since most were utterly ravaged by time and environmental hazards. Posters that were created in the 19th century simply didn’t have the advantage of the print-and-paper technology that we are currently using.

The second type of vintage poster is one that is called “vintage” not because of its age, but rather on the basis of its style. A lot of artists today are focusing solely on vintage art. Go to an art gallery or baroque inspired establishments, and chances are you’ll see vintage style art pieces adorning the walls. Artists like Julia Head, Dennis Loren, Eugene Grasset, and Kenneth Shoesmith are just some of my favorites.

Fact is, you don’t need to be a hands-on artist nowadays to create a turn-of-the-century vintage piece because of the availability of software such as Adobe Photoshop. But of course, true creative talent also translates into the final result, whether you do the poster hands-on or through the computer.

Vintage posters are popular and enduring because it’s a piece of artwork that brings out associations from a bygone era. Anything that is archaic in nature brings out an ineffable fascination, or the sensation of actually going back in time. Nostalgia is an emotion that is deeply imbued in art, and vintage artwork is something that can elicit them in big doses.

How To Collect Vintage Poster

Category: Vintage PostersAnders Eriksson @ 10:12 am

The best course of action to take sometimes isn’t clear until you’ve listed and considered your alternatives. The following paragraphs should help clue you in to what the experts think is significant.

Being a collector is not easy as most people think it is. Vintage poster collectors need to be very careful in choosing the posters that they buy and very meticulous in taking care of these expensive prints. Here are some tips on how to start your collection of vintage posters.

Buying Posters
The 2 most important questions you need to find answers to are first, where to buy vintage poster and second, how to determine if the poster is really vintage or not.

Collecting vintage posters is like going on a treasure hunt. Searching the market and even the internet may seem easy, but with the proliferation of fake vintage posters and scammers in the market, you might fall prey to these predators who are just trying to get your money.

Auction houses and websites are good places to look for rare vintage posters. Once you’ve found a poster that you would like to add in your collection, research on the poster first before buying it. Check if the poster deserves the amount written on its price tag. Of course, time is always of the essence as there might be a lot of vintage poster collectors that are planning to buy the same poster that you have found.

You can use these factors to determine a poster’s value.

Knowledge can give you a real advantage. To make sure you’re fully informed about Vintage Posters, keep reading.

? Rarity
The more copies that a poster has, the lower is the value placed on it. This is why posters with limited number of copies are very expensive. If there are only 3 copies of a poster, serious collectors will be willing to pay a high amount just to have one of those 3 copies. Imagine the price of a very rare poster that does not have any other copies.

An original poster of The Metropolis, a movie produced in the early 1900s was sold for almost $700,000 because that poster only has 3 copies left. One is in New York, USA and the other one is in Australia.

? Preservation
If a poster is well preserved and did not undergo too much restoration, expect the poster to be expensive. Posters that are in good condition and those only have a limited restoration done are priced higher because of aesthetic and authenticity factors. A nicely preserved poster is very nice to look at and would be a very good addition to any collection. A poster with only minimal restoration is more expensive compared to those that have undergone rigorous restoration. The more original the parts of a poster are, the higher will be its value.

? Popularity
Movie Posters and Political posters are the most common posters collected. They are also the most expensive posters you will find in the market. Also, posters that are made by famous artists like Jules Cheret and Alphonse Mucha are priced higher than other posters because these are posters artists that have contributed a lot to the development of poster art.

? Achievement of the Poster
Some posters are also valued because of the history of the poster. Block buster movie and famous political propaganda posters are expensive not only because they are popular but also because of the historical value attached to the posters.

Having a good vintage poster collection is a very nice accomplishment. Just like in any treasure hunt, you have to know the real gold from the fake ones.

How To Preserve Vintage Posters

Category: Vintage PostersAnders Eriksson @ 7:51 am

Vintage posters are very expensive. Its price and rarity are some of the reasons that collectors take extra care and spend a lot of money to care for their collection. Here are some things you have to know when caring for your vintage posters.
Storing

Vintage posters are highly vulnerable to environmental factors. This is because paper normally becomes weak and brittle as it aged.

Use acid-free sleeves to store your posters and lay them on a flat surface. If you are going to stack your posters, make sure to use a shrink- wrap and seal the opening properly. If you don’t seal your posters correctly, moisture can get in and ruin your posters. You can also roll your posters and use an acid-free tube for storage.

Storing your posters in a cool and dry place would also prevent it from being damaged but keep in mind that acid burn occurs naturally and if you don’t do any thing to slow down or prevent this process, your posters will still be ruined even if you store them properly.

Framing
If you want to display your posters, investing on good and dependable frames is a must. Light can damage your posters. Displaying them would put them at more risk to being damaged. To lessen the damage caused by light, use a glass or Plexiglas that is resistant to ultra-violet rays.

Matting and backing are also important things to consider when thinking of framing your posters. There are different types of backing that you can choose from, whatever kind you choose to use, keep in mind that the matting should be acid-free. Here are some types of backing that you can use

If your Vintage Posters facts are out-of-date, how will that affect your actions and decisions? Make certain you don’t let important Vintage Posters information slip by you.

? Linen backing. With this option, the poster is glued on an acid- free paper and a canvas. The glue that you should use is a wheat paste.

? Paper backing follows the process of linen backing minus the canvas.

? Tissue support is a minimal kind of backing which allows for easier color retouching, cleaning and paper replacement.

Some collectors are tempted to place their linen-back posters on dowels and display them. While this may be very attractive, this also puts the posters in danger of getting damaged by environmental stressors like moisture, air, light, dust and smoke. Avoid being tempted and frame your posters properly.

If you don’t want to use matting for your posters, make sure that you have a molding to separate the glass from the posters. Humidity can be trapped inside the frame and might cause the poster to stick to the glass. It might be hard to repair the ruined poster when this happens. A molding will create a space between the poster and the glass, preventing the poster from adhering to the glass in case humidity gets in the frame.

Collecting vintage posters is a serious hobby. You don’t just buy posters and display them in your home or gallery. You have to give some efforts to care for you pieces. Vintage posters increase in value through time. Consider your collection an investment. Take care of it and give it the appreciation it deserves.

Determining the Value of a Vintage Poster

Category: Vintage PostersAnders Eriksson @ 7:06 am

During the later 1970s, buying and selling vintage posters became very popular. The market focused on the most popular artists like Jules Cheret and Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec. Posters made by artists from the Art deco period, like Fix- Masseau also became very popular.

If you want to start building your own vintage poster collection, it’s important that you know how to determine a poster’s value. Here are some tips that you can follow when appraising a poster.

Printing technique
Posters made between the late 1800s and early 1900s were created using the printing technique of stone lithography. Today, posters of this kind are very expensive and are considered as rare finds.

Lithography is a printing process where colors that are to be used are put on individually on a porous stone. With an acid, the design is created on the stone and ink is spread on the stone so that it is absorbed on the design. The stone is then pressed on a paper to transfer the design. Once one color had dried, the process is repeated using other colors with other designs etched on it.

Stone lithography is replaced by silk screen and photo offset when World War 2 ended. Posters that are made from silk screen and photo offset are cheaper than those created using stone Lithography although posters drawn using this technique may be sold at a higher price if the posters are rare, made by well-known artists or advertised a popular movie. Poster from Switzerland or Japan can also be very expensive.

Originality
Genuine posters are more expensive than authorized reproductions. Most posters created using the lithography technique only has one original copy as lithography is a very expensive technique to use in making posters.

Achievements and Recognitions
Posters made by well known artists like Cheret are expensive. Those made by Toulouse- Lautrec have a high value because his posters paved the way to the acceptance of the medium as fine art. With this, many artists started to venture on making posters.

Those of you not familiar with the latest on Vintage Posters now have at least a basic understanding. But there’s more to come.

Here is a list of some of the most popular poster artists in the industry

? Adolphe Mouron Cassandre
? Angelo Cesselon
? Henri de Toulouse- Lautrec
? Jules Cheret
? Jean Carlu
? Beautiful Angle
? Michael Byrne
? Milton Glaser
? Mark Young
? Favianna Rodrigues

Subject
Subjects may vary depending on the type of poster that is created. Some popular subjects are bikes, automobiles, well-known political propagandas and women. Subjects of the poster depend greatly on the time that the poster was made.

Rarity
The number of copies that a poster has will have an effect on how much a poster is marketed. Posters that only have a limited number of copies would have a very high selling price.

The number of copies of a poster can be hard to determine. It’s very important that you do your research well when buying a vintage poster that is said to be rare.

Preservation
How the poster is stored will also have an effect on its price. Posters of good quality and in good condition will normally be sold at a higher price than those that weren’t preserved well.

When collecting vintage posters, it’s very important that you know how to examine a poster well so that you don’t pay too much for a poster that shouldn’t be sold at a high price.

When word gets around about your command of Vintage Posters facts, others who need to know about Vintage Posters will start to actively seek you out.

Photo-editing software like Photoshop would help you easily make your photo have that vintage effect that you see in old posters.

Here is an easy guide in creating your own vintage poster.

Preparing Your Image
Choose the image that you would like to turn into a vintage poster. Remove your main subjects from the background. You can use the pen tool or background eraser to do this. The background eraser would let you isolate subjects from the background by comparing the background color from the foreground color. Anything that is in great contrast with the background will not be erased.

For beginners, use a portrait that has as few subjects as possible. Turn the image to black and white. In Photoshop CS or higher, you can do this easily by clicking n the black & white button. If you are using a different software or an older version of Photoshop, you can de-saturate the image and it will give you the same desired effect.

Why Vintage Movie Posters Matter

Category: Vintage PostersAnders Eriksson @ 7:56 pm

The following article covers a topic that has recently moved to center stage–at least it seems that way. If you’ve been thinking you need to know more about it, here’s your opportunity.

If you’re a staunch collector and a movie buff, chances are you’ve already begun collecting vintage movie posters, or have already entertained the idea of starting. I bet that you’ve had a tinge of nostalgia looking at an old poster of King Kong perched on top of the Empire State Building, completely aware of the fact that this image has been embedded in the subconscious memory of almost all monster movie fans. You are sure to cause a lot of hoopla if visitors happened to chance upon that legendary poster on your wall. You’ll probably take great pride in it too. And why stop there, when you can score that classic poster showcasing the legendary King of Monsters, Godzilla, as he battles for supremacy against the destructive Anguirus (I bet you didn’t know that one!).

Although I wouldn’t recommend it to be your focal reason for collecting vintage movie posters, collecting vintage movie posters for profit is a very rewarding endeavor for your stash. The main reason for it is because movie producers haven’t thought about keeping movie posters up until the hobby boomed during the release of Star Wars in ’77. When the movie took off during that year, people wanted to purchase everything that has anything to do with it, and it is easy to guess that it included posters. Since then, movie poster collecting has become fashionable, and collectors have been fervent in their hopes of finding the ones that have been completely ignored before.

Knowledge can give you a real advantage. To make sure you’re fully informed about Vintage Posters, keep reading.

The weird thing is that filmmakers themselves have joined the fray, and were buying back the posters that were theirs in the first place. Can you imagine how classic films like Casablanca, Citizen Kane and The Bride of Frankenstein can cost these days? As a point of comparison, take heart that the most expensive piece that was sold went for over $700,000, when the Fritz Lang film, Metropolis, were bought by a US collector at the Reel Poster Gallery in London. Although it’s unlikely that this record can ever be broken, there are still a lot out there that are being put on sale for a hefty sum.

A vintage movie poster’s cost can be determined by a combination of factors. People collect for a bevy of reasons, such as the graphic artist who made the poster, the movie’s popularity, the actors, and the rarity of the poster. In a world where pop-culture icons are always immortalized, vintage poster hunting becomes more exhilarating. Loads of memorabilia have sprung up all over. Go to Memphis and it’s very likely that you’ll find an Elvis memorabilia. And what type of memorabilia would it be without the King’s vintage movie posters? You?ll find them there, and I mean lots of them.
